SRI GANESHAYA NAMAHA
ABOUT NIRUPAMA
bringing a contemporary voice to an ancient art form

Roots & rhythm

Nirupama Sreedhar is an emerging Bharatanatyam artist practising and learning on Dharug land (Sydney, Australia).

Her journey into the sacred art of Bharatanatyam began on Vijayadashami in 2018, at the age of 8, under the guidance of Smt. Saipriya Rahulan at the Shivam School of Dance.
Grounded in the Melattur bani, she has spent years building a foundation defined by technical precision and deep devotion.

The ascent to the stage

With the profound blessing of her Guru, Niru’s path to her Arangetram has been marked by a rapid succession of milestones.
Following her solo debut at the Sydney Murugan Temple in 2024, she was selected as a featured dancer in the 'Natya Sangam' anniversary showcase.

Her journey expanded internationally, culminating in her debut at the prestigious Natyanjali Festival in Tamil Nadu, India, in March 2025.

In October 2025, with the blessings of her guru and parents, Niru successfully completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram at the age of 15.

Art & ambition

Beyond the stage, Niru is a dedicated student who approaches her academics with the same discipline she applies to dance.
While she is focused on Bharatanatyam, she supplements her dance with training in Carnatic music, she is pursuing a future in the medical field.

She continues to represent her school in group productions, but is now focused on exploring how the ancient language of dance is pivotal in expressing both identity and a contemporary perspective.

THE PARAMPARA
The sacred lineage

Bharatanatyam is not simply taught; it is entrusted from one generation to the next.

As the inaugural student to complete an Arangetram at the Shivam School of Dance, it is a privilege to continue the lineage as passed to me by my esteemed Guru Smt. Saipriya Rahulan.

I am proud to uphold the traditions of my Guru's Lineage, and pay my deepest respects to Guru Smt. Kalasuri Vasugy Jegatheeswaran (Sri Lanka), Guru Smt. Anandavalli (Australia), and Guru Dr. Sheela Unnikrishnan (India).

Blessed by this sacred lineage, I strive to uphold the honor and timeless traditions of Bharatanatyam while exploring the art form through a modern lens.
